Dealing with excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) can feel overwhelming, affecting everything from your confidence to the clothes you choose to wear. If lifestyle changes and high-strength antiperspirants haven't given you the relief you need, it might be time to explore other medical options, including botulinum toxin.
At our Shoreham-by-Sea clinic, we provide a supportive, professional environment to help you manage excessive sweating. If you are struggling with excessive perspiration, please don’t suffer in silence. We encourage you to book a consultation with our dentists to explore your options.

We all sweat when it is hot, when we exercise, or when we feel stressed or anxious. It is the body's natural way of cooling itself down. However, if you find yourself sweating heavily for no obvious reason, even when you are resting or sitting in a cool room, or during the winter months, you might be experiencing hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating. It is a surprisingly common condition that happens when the body's sweat glands work on overdrive, producing far more moisture than your body actually needs to regulate its temperature. If you think you are suffering from hyperhidrosis, book a consultation with our friendly team.

Most people know Botulinum Toxin for its ability to smooth out wrinkles, but it is also a highly effective, medically approved treatment for severe sweating (hyperhidrosis). When your body gets too hot, your brain sends a chemical message, using a signal molecule called acetylcholine, to your sweat glands, telling them to start producing moisture.
If you have hyperhidrosis, the brain sends these signals constantly, even when your body is perfectly cool. The sweat glands are healthy, but they are receiving a jammed on switch.
The treatment works by acting as a temporary shield between your nervous system and your sweat glands. When tiny amounts of the medicine are injected just under the surface of the skin in problem areas (like the underarms), it enters the local nerve endings. Once there, it blocks the release of acetylcholine.

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating that goes far beyond what the body needs to regulate its temperature. It often happens regardless of the weather, physical activity, or stress levels.
Botox® is a highly effective, medically approved treatment for severe primary hyperhidrosis (usually in the underarms). It works by temporarily intercepting the chemical signals that your brain sends to your sweat glands. By creating a temporary shield, the medicine stops the “sweat” message from reaching the glands in the treated area, causing the sweating to drastically reduce or stop entirely.
While the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis) are by far the most common area treated, and the area where the medicine is officially licensed for this purpose, it can also be used to treat other problematic spots.
The areas that can be targeted include:
Treating areas like the hands or feet can be more sensitive, so a clinician will discuss specific comfort measures and suitability with you during your initial face-to-face consultation.
Yes, when administered by a qualified, regulated medical professional, it has an excellent safety profile and has been used to treat medical conditions for decades. Because the injections are placed very shallowly, just beneath the surface of the skin, the medicine stays localised to the treated area and does not spread through the rest of your body.
Like any medical procedure, there can be minor, temporary side effects. These are typically mild and clear up within a few days. During your thorough clinical consultation, your practitioner will review your full medical history to ensure the treatment is completely safe for you before proceeding.
